If you’re looking for a mobile computer that more than ‘does the job’, the chances are that you will be very satisfied with the performance and functionality of the Honeywell CK71.

Also known as the Intermec CK71, this device is an extreme-duty mobile computer that has long won rave reviews – but do you know everything you ought to know about the CK71?

Knowing answers to some of the questions most frequently asked about the Honeywell CK71 could help you make the most of this well-regarded mobile computer in your day-to-day business operations. So, let’s get on with those answers.

How Does the CK71 Compare to Obvious Alternatives?

One way to answer this question, is to look at ‘sister’ models made available by Intermec and Honeywell themselves.

When, for example, Intermec threw the covers off its CN70 Series of ultra-rugged computers back in 2011, there were initially four devices making up the 70 Series: the CN70, CN70e, CK70, and CK71.

As the Rugged PC Review website explained at the time, the CK71 had certain things in common with its ‘siblings’, including running on Microsoft Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5, using a 600MHz Texas Instruments OMAP 3530 processor, and sporting a 3.5-inch full-VGA 480×640 pixel touch display with LED backlight.

However, the Honeywell CK71 is also distinctive on account of its larger handheld terminal form factor with bigger keypads, compared to the CN70 and CN70e. It differs from the CK70, meanwhile, on the basis of its available keypads and the possibility of optional scanners for a range of scanning needs.

How ‘Rugged’ Is the Honeywell CK71?

Whether you’re seeking out a mobile computer that offers up such features as hardened Corning Gorilla Glass to help guard against knocks, or perhaps the ability to survive falls of as much as eight feet on a concrete surface, the CK71 really is built to last.

Indeed, the CK71’s manufacture from high-quality industrial materials helps make it an excellent match to some of the most extreme working environments of today.

How Do You Perform a Cleanboot on The CK71?

The cleanbooting of your Intermec or Honeywell CK71 doesn’t have to be as complicated or tricky a task as you might think.

It’s as straightforward a process as turning off the unit, before removing the battery, and then spending five seconds pressing and holding on the Reset button. Put in the battery pack, and then press and hold the Power button.

Release the Power button once you see the “Release IO Button” displayed, and within 20 seconds, press the ‘1’ key, and then the ‘2’ key. Follow this up by again pressing the ‘1’ key and then the ‘2’ key, still within the previous 20 seconds, and the CK71 should show “Cleanboot Confirmed”.

The device will then go ahead with the cleanboot sequence.

Has Support Ended for The Honeywell CK71?

According to an online support article published by Honeywell and last updated in January 2020, the launch of the next-generation CK75 mobile computer has led the company to discontinue the regular CK71 variant.

The same article gave an End of Life (EOL) date of 31st December 2015 for the CK71, and End of Service (EOS) on 31st December 2020. The company added at the time that there was not yet any plan for End of Support in relation to this device.

Whatever happens with the Honeywell CK71 going forward, there can be no question that this tough and high-specification mobile computer continues to deliver great results for all manner of organisations that depend on such devices.
